Solar Energy Projects Are Now Within Reach for Nonprofits
GreenBridge Energy is an active developer of solar energy projects for nonprofit institutions throughout the Northeast – at no cost to them! GreenBridge Energy operates these projects through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) where we design, install, maintain and own the systems, and the host nonprofit receives reduced-rate power generated by the system throughout the term of the contract.
These PPAs are attractive to our nonprofit partners for several reasons:
-
Installation Requires No Up-Front Costs
Traditionally, up-front costs have been among the greatest barrier for solar projects. Through GreenBridge Energy's PPA program, and thanks to recent federal and state incentives, we are able to fully overcome this hurdle. This works particularly well for nonprofits because they are not eligible for the 30% federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009. Although nonprofits may be eligible for some state incentive and grant programs, by themselves these funds are generally not large enough to make projects work financially. GreenBridge Energy is able to take full advantage of these incentives.
-
You'll Save Money Through Lower Energy Costs
Through a PPA, your nonprofit is able to lock in a fixed power rate at a significant discount against whatever you are paying currently. Although the PPA would contain a small annual escalator, that rate of increase certainly would be less than the 5% to 7% (and sometimes greater) annual increases that have been experienced recently. And with the global climate crisis, expected fuel shortages and the potential for "cap and trade" legislation during the next 20 years, the long-term savings are likely to be enormous.
-
Your Energy Costs Will Be More Predictable
Besides paying a consistently lower cost, fuel price volatility has been a significant issue for financial managers in many nonprofit organizations. The ability to budget consistently has been highly attractive to our project partners.
-
It Offers Low-Risk Involvement
GreenBridge Energy, as the system owner, will be fully responsible for the monitoring, maintenance, repair and replacement of the system components during the term of the contract. The host will not need to learn the mechanics of the system nor dedicate valuable time to maintain it.
-
It Provides Outstanding PR And Improved Competitive Advantage
Interpretive kiosks, signs and other outreach materials will undoubtedly strengthen your "green" image as a leading, innovative organization while it generates significant quantities of clean, renewable energy. In addition, the presence of an onsite renewable energy system provides the nonprofit host with valuable leverage for fundraising among individual donors and private foundations.
-
Reliable Funding Provides Confidence
GreenBridge Energy has funds in place to develop additional projects, and it is backed by major financial institutions. Our team has world-class talent with decades of experience in renewable energy engineering, design, installation, policy, finance, and project management. Prior to coming to this work, several of us also spent more than a decade as senior managers in the nonprofit sector, and we are deeply committed to larger social, humanitarian, and environmental goals.
